DT S1E2: AT-AT Challenge

On this season of Drone Trippin, AirVūz Pilots Zoe Stumbaugh, Shaun Taylor, Shelby Voll and Colby Curtola head on the road trip of their lives. The pilots travel through scenic destinations across the western USA with FPV whiz, Trey Player, in a droned-out R.V. to test their skills in quad building, freestyle flow, drone racing, and pilot accuracy. Season 1, Episode 2, the crew makes their way across Nevada and into the Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah for the AT-AT Challenge! Just like in "Empire Strikes Back", the pilots attempt to take down an Imperial Walker with their Snow Speeders, AKA Zoe's Twitch 109. It's Light Side versus Dark Side in the Salt Flats! They also fly in some cool drone zones along the journey, such as the Tree of Life, also called
Metaphor. Its an 87-foot tall sculpture poking up out of the white plains of the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Drone Trippin on AirVūz.com VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: Narriator: [00:00:30] This is Drone Trippin'. On this episode, [inaudible 00:00:53] pilots make their way through Nevada to the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah for the AT-AT challenge and also put the finishing touches on [00:01:00] their custom quad pod racers. Shaun Taylor: How do I feel? Exhausted! I'm really tired from driving all night. Everybody else was passed out while I was trying not to kill us all on the highway. Colby Curtola: I was up until about four in the morning, keeping Shaun awake, just building the pod racers, kinda getting everything ready for the shoot tomorrow. Trying to solder the flight controller. It's working, we hover tested them. We flew them this morning at a rest stop somewhere in Nevada, not sure where. Zoe Stumbaugh: [inaudible 00:01:30] [00:01:30] duel camera set up. It's like Christmas. Shaun Taylor: Here we go! Here we go. I'm pretty sure I destroyed them all when it came to the speed of building [inaudible 00:01:49]. It mounted up pretty easily. Zoe Stumbaugh: [inaudible 00:01:55]. Shaun Taylor: [inaudible 00:01:55] did a great job with getting the foam cut, painted. [crosstalk 00:02:01] [00:02:00] we're working on it. It's coming together really good though. Shelby Voll: Getting us to the point we're at right now we've had to do an all nighter drive almost and I've got jet lag so I'm like three hours ahead. Zoe Stumbaugh: We drove all night last night and went to sleep, at least I went kinda to sleep, which was basically just closing my eyes and then you wake up and you're in a different location. The morning we woke up and all of us were really eager to burn som batteries and I think Shaun [00:02:30] Taylor was the first one to burn a battery. Colby Curtola: I saw Shaun do some close flybys, which was kinda scary. Zoe Stumbaugh: I was really jealous so I got my [inaudible 00:02:38] and I threw down some 3D and had some fun down in the parking lot where we were. Shelby Voll: They [00:03:00] had some gazebos all over, they were sprinkled out like 10 of them I think. So people were bear rolling into them, [inaudible 00:03:16] looping into them. It was pretty cool. That was [00:03:30] good! What was that? What is happening? Colby Curtola: I haven't seen Shelby fly a quad yet, I'm sure he's good but I don't think he's good enough to beat us. Me and Zoe, because she's Chewbacca and I'm Obi Wan Kenobi. Shelby Voll: God, I feel like a newbie. Colby Curtola: So I think we have a better shot of pretty much winning every challenge. Most movies, the light side always comes out on top so I think the dark side's gonna start playing games with their heads and it's gonna get to them [00:04:00] and the light sides' gonna prevail. Shaun Taylor: I think the dark side's gonna crush the competition. Narriator: If you only knew the power of the dark side. It is your destiny. Zoe Stumbaugh: That was awesome! Trey Player: [00:05:00] Alright guys, so you've joined me here on this long expedition, which I highly appreciate. So now it's time to get down to business. What I brought yo here for is a Star Wars challenge. So, what we've done is [00:05:30] we've gotten an AT-AT that you are going to repeat the scenes that were shot in the original Star Wars, except using drones and you're gonna circle the AT-AT three times trying to wrap its legs. Everybody understand? Shaun Taylor: Sounds good. [crosstalk 00:05:45] Trey Player: Excellent, let's get to the challenge. Shaun Taylor: Sounds good man. [crosstalk 00:05:48]. Trey Player: Alright guys, so you each have your own prop. Put the prop in the bag, I'll reach in and grab the prop. Alright, Shelby goes first. Shelby Voll: [00:06:00] Trey pulls out this [inaudible 00:06:04] you could blow on it and it'd fall over. It looked just like the scene from the movie. Colby Curtola: It really almost looked like snow and the way that the salt formed, you could almost ball it up into a snowball actually. I actually nailed Trey in the back with one. [crosstalk 00:06:22]. Zoe Stumbaugh: Because that was the first challenge that we did, we all got super hyper competitive, like the gloves came off. [00:06:30] I was super surprised to see people get competitive about a little AT-AT walking down the salt flats, but we did. Trey Player: Alright Shelby, you've got exactly two minutes to complete this challenge. You read? Shelby Voll: Good, yeah. Trey Player: Alright buddy, good luck! Shelby Voll: Lower, lower. Zoe Stumbaugh: Faster. Colby Curtola: Faster, that's great. Oh he might have it. [inaudible 00:07:00] [00:07:00] oh that looks good! Yeah get that one more time. Shelby Voll: That's it. That's a better speed. Trey Player: Alright, Shelby's around it twice! Shaun Taylor: Oh it's moving! Trey Player: Shelby has [inaudible 00:07:17] two times. Going in for his third time. Zoe Stumbaugh: Nice and gentle. Colby Curtola: Oh yeah! Nice dude! Hold on, hold on stop, stop. Zoe Stumbaugh: Power down. Shelby Voll: I'm trying, I'm [00:07:30] trying, I'm trying. Trey Player: Alright good job Shelby, 47 seconds, awesome. Shaun Taylor: Dark side! Trey Player: Alright Zoe, are you ready? Zoe Stumbaugh: I am ready. Trey Player: Starting in three, two, one, go! Shelby Voll: Oh she's got it. Colby Curtola: Give it a little more slack though, give it a little more slack. [00:08:00] Okay, [inaudible 00:08:04]. One time around. Okay, one more time! [inaudible 00:08:15]. Stopped it too. Zoe Stumbaugh: No, I got a third one dude! Shaun Taylor: No, that was only two. Zoe Stumbaugh: I went all the way around three times. Shelby Voll: No, we counted where you started and when you went around. I think you chopped the [inaudible 00:08:27] lost the string. Zoe Stumbaugh: I went around three times. Shelby Voll: [00:08:30] No, we counted you. Zoe Stumbaugh: Cable's attached. Trey Player: Alright Shaun are you ready? Shaun Taylor: Nope! Let me make sure I get this arm switch right. Trey Player: No, Zoe! Shaun Taylor: There we go. I am ready. Trey Player: Alright ready, in three, two, one, go! Shaun Taylor: [00:09:00] Whoa! That's not me. That is not me! This thing is freaking out! This thing's freaking out. Trey Player: Alright gotta go around twice. Shaun Taylor: Oh! Zoe Stumbaugh: Let me see it real quick? Shaun Taylor: Ah! Can I use my quad, this thing is like doing this and freaking out. Colby Curtola: That's part of the challenge. Shaun Taylor: This thing [00:09:30] is not flying right. I was just cruising straight, it was all [inaudible 00:09:33]. Zoe Stumbaugh: Dude, it got stuck in the motor as you went around. Trey Player: Alright Colby, you have exactly two minutes. Are you ready? Colby Curtola: Ready. Trey Player: In three, two, one, go. Zoe Stumbaugh: You got this Colby. Trey Player: Colby is around once. [00:10:00] Colby is ... Colby Curtola: Falling over here. Trey Player: Oh he lost it. He's lost it. Colby has lost it. Shaun Taylor: There's no [inaudible 00:10:09] and then there's a ton of [inaudible 00:10:11]. Trey Player: Colby's around ... nope, still not hooked. Alright Colby, you got one minute and 15 seconds left! Shelby Voll: It's already over. Shaun Taylor: Over with now. Trey Player: He's around! Twice and around ... alright he's hooked. Zoe Stumbaugh: Yes! Trey Player: Alright! [crosstalk 00:10:37]. Colby Curtola: Knocked it [00:10:30] over. Shelby Voll: We didn't have to knock her over. All we had to do was go around three times. Alright we gotta hurry and get these pods ... Colby Curtola: Dude that is hard to stand it up. Shaun Taylor: I know. Trey Player: Yeah Dark side wins today. Shelby Voll: Dark side wins, baby! Shaun Taylor: All day long! All day long! Ready? Shelby Voll: Yes! Yeah! Zoe Stumbaugh: Darth Vader, believe it or not, pulled it [00:11:00] out for the win. Like, Shelby Voll is not the quad pilot of the group but he managed to actually knock that thing down and get it out in the air so that was really impressive to see. Shaun Taylor: He took home that win and yeah chalk that one up for the dark side, I think. Narriator: Next episode, custom quad pod racing [inaudible 00:11:20]. Shelby Voll: Later after the challenge was the fist time we got to bring the pods out, which was really, really cool because it was sunset. The lighting was perfect [00:11:30] and so there was not a lot of light on the flats, but it made it more like a hot seat. Trey Player: [inaudible 00:11:38] props in the bag. I'll reach in and grab the prop, whoever comes out first gets to go. Colby Curtola: Sorry. Zoe Stumbaugh: God dammit Colby. Shelby Voll: Running out of light here. Colby Curtola: I was trying to hold it.
