DT S2E2: Beautiful Hawaii

The quads are back in action on Season 2 of Drone Trippin! This season, a world-class crew of FPV pilots headlined by ZoeFPV, JohnnyFPV, SFPV, and FlyingBearFPV heads to Oahu, Hawaii to shred the island’s beautiful coastline, breathtaking cliffs, epic beach parks, and abandoned structures in between competition at the World Drone Racing Championships.

In Episode 2: Beautiful Hawaii, Zoe, Johnny, and Colby are on the road to one of Oahu's lush botanical gardens, where they'll get the chance to pick out the best spot to rip some packs among the flora and fauna. Along the way, they've worked out a challenge: each of them will have to find a stop along the way that showcases the beauty of the island with some FPV freestyle.

Today, the crew's flying at one of Oahu's incredible botanical gardens. But, on the way, they've challenged each other to pick out their own locations that showcase the beauty of the island with some FPB freestyle. Colby: [00:00:30] So, we are heading to the botanical gardens, but hitting some spots on the way. Zoe: Pretty excited. I mean, this is Hawaii. We have some of the most gorgeous locations in the world right here, right now. So, being able to pick out where we want to fly is pretty freaking epic. Yeah, we're about 10 minutes out from my spot. I keep forgetting the name of it. It's so hard to pronounce these island names. I feel like such a tourist. Like, [Kay-Key-Me 00:00:58] What? We drove by it, [00:01:00] and it was just basically like a jungle of palm trees. I was like, I need to fly this spot. Colby: I found a, it looks like some kind of cement structure. It looks like a, I don't know. Like some old kind of, ancient site up in the mountains. Not to far up the main highway. Zoe: Why didn't you tell me about this spot Colby? Colby: Because it's my spot. Zoe: Oh. Johnny: I didn't actually look for a spot. Whenever I do that, it ends up being super lame, so I just like to get in the car and [00:01:30] try and find something awesome. Zoe: Right here. You see these palm trees to the right? This is the spot I was talking about. Colby: There's people like living here. That lady doesn't look like she's going to like the drones. Zoe: Kahana Bay Beach Park. There's just a lot of tree top and stuff with 3D so like, I'll be able to pop down and do really cool drops on the trees themselves and if I crash I should be able to fall out of a palm tree versus get stuck in it. This is pretty cool. Colby: Yeah, I say we go for it. Johnny: Dude! Look how [00:02:00] tall these trees are. Colby: Oh, yeah. Zoe: I like this spot Colby: I'm feeling it. Lisa Manfredi's leaving the park so we're good. Zoe: The game plan is to burn a few packs, have a lot of fun and capture some amazing footage. We're gonna go fly. We're gonna go fly. [00:02:30] Okay, [00:03:00] guys. Now, power up! Check this out! Look at [00:03:30] this landing. Inverted landing. And, [00:04:00] that is how you fly a 3D quad. What I like about this place is that it's very open. There's very defined lines. You can see the gaps from the trees very easily. [00:05:00] It is raining. That was so cool. Oh, my God, [00:05:30] the adrenaline high. It is like the first time you've had sex mixed with the first time you've ever driven a car, and the first time you've ever jumped off a cliff all in one. Oh, my God. It's raining. It's raining! We got like, a few good batteries though. When the sun came out, we had some fun. That was pretty freaking epic. I liked it. Colby: It's a good start to the day, I'd say. Zoe: The sun came out just long enough for us to fly. Colby: I just like how skinny these trees are you can just [00:06:00] dive them the whole way and not worry about hitting anything. There's no- Zoe: Dude, I was in a palm tree completely at one point and I was able to get out of it. Colby: Nice. Zoe: And, keep flying. I've never done a spot like that before. Johnny: Those trees were awesome. There's nothing like that in Chicago, so. Colby: Do you know what palm trees are? Johnny: No. Zoe: Where is the next location? Because Johnny just wants to be like Johnny, and be like, "We're flying here." Johnny: We're just going to keep driving. See if we can find anything. Go with the flow. Zoe: And you, you still picking a spot or what? Colby: I'm still looking. Yeah, I need to get [00:06:30] service on my phone. Zoe: We still need to have a challenge of herding chickens into- Johnny: Hurting? Zoe: Herding them, yeah. Johnny: Oh, herding. Not hurting. Zoe: No, we're hurting. I don't want to hurt a chicken. Oh, these mountains are beautiful. We got to do some cliff diving before we go. Johnny: We can dive down those? Oh, man. Every little ridge in there. Colby: Yeah. Zoe: Diver! Turn around now! Colby: That looks like it's some thick brush to walk through. Johnny: Yeah, we need to fly from the road or something. [inaudible 00:06:54]. Clear line of sight, maybe. Speaker 1: This stop also [00:07:00] happened to be just down the road from the site of this year's Drone World Championships, and that meant an audience. Speaker 5: Hey, team Canada coming right at you from Hawaii. Colby: I mean, I guess we could dive this cliff right here. Johnny: We totally could. You want to? Colby: What do you think? Johnny: I'm down. Colby: Yeah, it's not too bad. Johnny: So, if we hit the cliff it will probably ricochet into this brush. I don't know. It's a little sketchy, but it might be worth it. Zoe: It's not like you've got to tap [00:07:30] the cliff. Show us what you got Johnny. Johnny: Legendary! Zoe: When you said heads up, you meant it. Wow! Johnny: It's a little windy. Colby: This your spot? Zoe: It is now, I guess. [00:08:00] And, he's in the moon. Johnny: Dude! Colby: It's kind of [00:08:30] hard to make out the terrain. Johnny: Video clear, crystal. Colby: Good [00:09:00] little run. Zoe: Dude, that was epic. King of flow. Colby: It's [00:09:30] hard to hit that properly because the wind's shifting you, and you don't know where the heck you are. Down here, you can't see anything. Where was I? [00:10:30] No one was watching? Zoe: Wait, you went down? Colby: [00:11:00] No one's watching? Dude, you guys gotta spot. Are you kidding me? Zoe: I thought your girlfriend was spotting for you. Colby: She doesn't fly. Zoe: Did you see where he went down? Johnny: He doesn't even know where it is. Speaker 1: When Drone Trippin returns. Colby: [00:11:30] I just looked on Google Maps. I was looking around the garden and saw the lake and I saw this bridge that kind of stood out. This is a cool spot though. The lake in the background and some tree gaps. Johnny: Yeah, really pretty. I was chasing you almost the ... like for half the pack, going through the tree gap. We hit, I don't know, like four spots. All epic and- Colby: Yeah, we might need to slow down a little bit. Johnny: I know. Colby: We're going to run out of island.
