Frauenkirche, Dresden

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

Take in this aerial view of the  Dresden Cathedral, compliments of DW-Travel. It's one of the most beautiful churches in Europe as well as one of the most powerful symbols of the 20th destruction visited by and upon Germany.  In February, 1945, near the end of World War II, Dresden was nearly destroyed in a still-controversial Allied firebombing attack.  The bombing, immortalized in Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five (1969), inflicted significant damage to the cathedral and killed at least 25,000 civilians.
