The village lies in the valley of the river Orava next to both banks. The area on the left bank belongs to the Orava Highlands, on the right to the Orava Magura. Its surface is considerably forested, marked by erosion. The first mention of the village is from 1420, when it was a serf village of Orava Castle. In 1683 it was burned down by Polish-Lithuanian troops. In addition to farming and livestock, the inhabitants were involved in the distribution of bryndza, cottage cheese and lamb. From 1837, they began to produce quality canvas in the village. After 1918 there was an emigration. There were three sawmills in the village, avoids, basketry and weaving developed. The fires of 1930 and 1962 caused considerable economic damage.
