The battery on my GoPro Session 5 has been slowly dying, as well as some intermittent shutter issues and my BestBuy warranty was expiring, so I went ahead and traded it in for a GoPro Hero 7 (gulp!). The weight and the fragility were a concern, but given I got it for only the price of the warranty renewal, I'm not going to complain! Huge shout out to all those MiniQuadClub Facebook group members who chipped in to get me my session 5 3 years ago! It's still paying out! I probably still wouldn't have HD footage without those guys. I designed a custom case for the Hero 7 with a carbon fiber plate in the back to protect the screen, and built-in a strap hook/slot to make mounting easier. I'm going to try to get it printing on the SLS printer I have at work, so I might be making it available if there is enough interest. Last week I had to spend some time downtown for work, so I took along my drone and got a couple packs in. I had to stick to this tiny little corner of the park, as there were way to many soft targets in the main area downtown. Still it wasn't a bad spot to give the Hero 7 some initial tests. Because I'm doing a lot of filter testing I typically run 60fps and no ND filters, but I was pretty impressed with the dynamic range. Being able to run 2.7k at 60fps is pretty nice too! The partial cloud cover over the sun is never any easy lighting situation either, but it did pretty well! The tune is pretty good on this, but still a few shakes when the props get dinged up. Might tweak the filters a tad, but it's pretty solid as is, so not sure if it's worth it. Wish I had time for a few more packs here (as always! Never enough time for more than a couple!), but still fun to try out the new GoPro and test the case design.
