- Report
Once a thriving lakeside resort in Argentina, Villa Epecuén was known for its healing salt waters and peaceful charm.
Founded in the 1920s, it attracted thousands — until disaster struck. In 1985, the salt lake of Lago Epecuén burst through its protective walls, flooding the entire town.
Within days, it was gone — submerged under nearly 10 meters of water. For nearly 25 years, Epecuén remained underwater.
When the floodwaters finally receded, they revealed a haunting ghost town: Salt-covered ruins, twisted trees, and crumbling buildings — frozen in time.
This is Epecuén: Argentina’s lost town, reclaimed by nature, remembered from above.
