Ermita de Durón

La ermita de la Virgen de la Esperanza de Durón, situada en un altozano sobre las aguas del Tajo remansadas de Entrepeñas, es quizás uno de los lugares con las mejores vistas de este embalse.

Es un edificio grande, robusto y fuerte; se encuentra construido sobre las piedras pertenecientes a la antigua ermita y que hoy ya está desaparecida, aunque sus restos han estado durante muchos años bajo las aguas de Entrepeñas. La ermita, de construcción barroca del siglo XVII, fue trazada y construida en 1629 por Juan García Ochaíta, a instancias del pueblo y obispado.

Deteriorada pronto, hubo de ser reconstruida en 1700, estando en esta ocasión las obras a cargo de Pedro de Villa Monchalián, maestro montañés, constructor de la iglesia de Jadraque, quien le dio traza. Es edificio de muy severas líneas y vanos moldurados con sencillez; posee una sola nave, gran crucero cubierto de cúpula hemisférica, y con talla de la Virgen de la Esperanza.

The hermitage of the Virgen de la Esperanza de Durón, located on a hill above the still waters of the Tagus of Entrepeñas, is perhaps one of the places with the best views of this reservoir.

It is a large, robust and strong building; It is built on the stones belonging to the old hermitage and which today has already disappeared, although its remains have been under the waters of Entrepeñas for many years. The hermitage, of Baroque construction from the 17th century, was drawn up and built in 1629 by Juan García Ochaíta, at the request of the town and bishopric.

Soon deteriorated, it had to be rebuilt in 1700, on this occasion the works were in charge of Pedro de Villa Monchalián, a mountain master, builder of the Jadraque church, who gave it a plan. It is a building with very severe lines and openings molded with simplicity; It has a single nave, a large transept covered with a hemispherical dome, and a carving of the Virgen de la Esperanza.
