One of the world's most active volcanoes, Etna is situated on the eastern side of the island, roughly between the cities of Messina and Cantania. Located on the convergence between the African and Eurasian tectonic plates, it stands just under 11.2k ft. above sea level (around 3.4k m), making it Italy's tallest peak outside of the Alps.
