Exploring Belgium's Citadel, Castles, and More!

Explore some of the most historic landmarks in Belgium in this excellent drone video by AirVuz contributor CTT Channel.  The first stop is the great citadel of Dinant on the River Meuse, which dates to the Napoleonic era.  Then it's on to the nearby Walzin Castle, portions of which date to the 11th century.  The next stop is the ruined Montquintin Castle, which lies in the southern province of Luxumbourg.  Other featured locations include the St. Nicholas Bridge in Chiny, the Viere Dam, and the town of Montauban.

Our adventure begins at the Citadel of Dinant, an 11th-century fortress with a storied history, the current fort was built in 1815 on a site which was originally fortified in 1051, a crucial defense stronghold throughout Belgian history, offering stunning panoramic views that have inspired artists and writers for generations. Next, we visit Walzin Castle, a 13th-century masterpiece, steeped in stories of knights, noble families, and architectural marvels, nestled in the scenic Lesse Valley. It is one of the largest castles in Belgium. It served as a surveillance post and defence for the city of Dinant. Cause the only way to access the city of Dinant from the South was through the gates of this stunning fortress. Montquintin Castle, dating back to the 13th century, awaits with tales of battles, renovations, and hidden treasures, set amidst picturesque surroundings. Montquintin Castle is an ancient feudal castle, now in ruins, situated on a ridge overlooking the valley of the Ton in Gaume. Originally the castle was probably only designed to defend the southern border of the counts of Chiny. It was built by order of Louis II, Count of Chiny. As we soar through the skies, the iconic St. Nicholas Bridge in Chiny, built of dark stone with Roman-style arches in 1884, comes into view, a testament to Belgian engineering, spanning the meandering Semois River. The lake of the Vierre dam in Chiny, formed by a 19th-century dam, shimmers beneath our drone, offering a serene retreat and a glimpse into Belgium's industrial past. Our aerial expedition concludes amidst the enchanting ruins of Montauban, the classified site of Montauban is a hotspot of archaeology where and remains of the past, history, heritage, natural wealth and contemporary art intertwine. Past time and present time intertwine and make of this site a place full of magic. This sanctuary features the ruins of a dungeon, ruins of a castle that is said to have belonged to the Four Aymon Sons.
