Garbagnate Milanese - In the early years of the last century, tuberculosis was a widespread disease, therefore the Municipality of Milan in 1911 decided to build a large sanatorium in the surrounding area, which would be called "Vittorio Emanuele III". The First World War slowed down the construction works and the sanatorium was completed and inaugurated only in 1924. The construction was strongly supported by Dr. Guido Salvini, a doctor who for some time had been traveling through the province on board his buggy to treat the inhabitants of the farmhouses . The structure stood 14 km from Milan and 1 km from Garbagnate, which at the time was not as large as it is today and was immersed in the Groane Park, away from traffic and already polluted air. The clayey soil on which the sanatorium would be built was suitably drained with a main collector, in which secondary drainage channels and also marshes, which in the early operating times still existed near the structure, especially where large masses of water had been removed. earth for the brick industry, were suitably reclaimed. The total area occupied was 750,000 square meters, of which 33,000 of buildings, 100,000 of streets and avenues, 40,000 of gardens, 77,000 of cultivated land and the remaining 500,000 square meters of forest. In 1929 a new 800-bed pavilion was built for women and the following year another 1000 for children was added, for a total of over 1500 beds. During the Second World War, more precisely in 1942, the administrative management of the complex was entrusted to the Pio Istituto Santa Corona, which however did not deal directly with the sick and on August 29, 1946, after a whole life dedicated to people suffering from tuberculosis, Guido Salvini died. In 1949, therefore, the Pio Istituto Santa Croce also took over the management of patients and had new biological pits built, a new well for water supply, covered terraces for air therapy and other discoveries for heliotherapy, in addition to a garage for service vehicles. A professional retraining school for the inpatients was also inaugurated. In 1951, however, the radiology department was renewed and expanded, while the heating system was converted from naphtha to methane and connected directly with the Agip network. The following year the General Surgery and Medicine and Pulmonology divisions were established. Due to the contraction of the sanatorium sector, due to the introduction of antibiotics, in 1955 the sanatorium began to be converted into a general hospital and the beds reached 50% of the accommodation capacity. On 10 November of that year, the hospital was renamed "Guido Salvini Sanatorium of the City of Milan", but the progressive and incessant decrease in tuberculosis cases led to the complete conversion to a general hospital in the 1970s. In 1988 the "Guido Salvini" Hospital was established but, at the same time, a slow but inexorable abandonment of the structure began, in anticipation of the future opening of a new hospital, finished building on November 4, 2014 and inaugurated the following year, on October 12, 2015. The old sanatorium is therefore currently in disuse, but it would still be recoverable and usable, perhaps with a different intended use. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• ⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️ ⭕️⭕️Disclaimer ⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️Disclaimer ⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️Disclaimer ⭕️⭕️⭕️ ⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️ All the people in the movie are actors, the video is not based on a true story.
