Forte de Caxias

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

Portugal's Fort of São Bruno is one of a series of fortifications erected during the 17th century to protect Lisbon from seaborne invasion.  The fortress is situated in the town of Caxias, just south of the mouth of the Tagus River estuary on which Lisbon is situated.  Seen here in this drone video by Timeacrth, The star-shaped structure became operational in 1649.  Despite being used for target practice into the 19th century, the guns of São Bruno were never fired in anger, and the anticipated invasion from Spain never materialized.
