The route along the coast from Melbourne to Sydney is an endless string of less-frequented beaches and many little surprises for those who can spare some extra time for this trip. Our journey lasted 11 days, but we could have easily spent twice that time, and we even had to skip a few places along the way. The highlights of our trip were: Port Albert: Watching the locals launch their small boats for fishing at daybreak Paynesville: Enjoying a coffee with a Mediterranean flair Mallacoota: Riding bikes, fishing, and simply finding peace and quietness Gillard's Campground: A beautiful camping site with kangaroos and many other animals Dolphin Spot: Watching surfers and having fun with the big waves crashing on the rocks Kiama: A beautiful park and the famous blowhole HARS aviation museum: Very friendly staff and direct access to many interesting airplanes Sydney: Sydney Harbour speaks for itself - what a scenery! These are just a few highlights along the coastal route from Melbourne to Sydney. However, there are many more hidden gems and scenic beauties to discover if you allocate more time for the journey.
