Halde Hoheward

Information from Wikipedia: The Hoheward slag heap is a slag heap in the Ruhr area. It was built up from the fillings of Recklinghausen II colliery, Ewald colliery and General Blumenthal/Haard colliery. Situated between the towns of Herten and Recklinghausen, it forms together with the slagheap Hoppenbruch the largest slagheap landscape in the Ruhr area. The highest point of the slagheap is 152.5 m above sea level. The Hoheward and Hoppenbruch slagheaps are part of the Route of Industrial Culture and the Hoheward Landscape Park. The owner of both slagheaps is the Regionalverband Ruhr, which has taken over the areas from Deutsche Steinkohle AG. As project sponsor, it is responsible for the expansion of the Hoheward slagheap. In good visibility, the Rhine Tower in Düsseldorf, about 50 km away, can be seen.
