--HELP SAVE OUR HOBBY MISSION STATEMENT AND EVENT INFO-- Since the dawn of time man has dreamt of flying… This history of human flight is wrought with invention and stubborn determination. With repeated attempts and failed creations flight was achieved… Hobby aviation has been a deeply important part of American culture for nearly a century and has driven innovation and brought joy to millions of people. The FAA has proposed rules in their NPRM for Remote ID, which will severely impact the future access to hobby aviation to make way for commercial Unmanned Aerial Systems. To this goal, their rules would go so far as to ban you and your family from flying a home built RC airplane or drone anywhere outside of a predesignated area. This ban would even include your own backyard… The only way to use the airspace for hobby flight will be to purchase a prebuilt craft from an FAA certified manufacturer and that craft will need to be registered(FEE), have a “remote ID tag license number(FEE and COST)”, and an active connection to a cell data plan(COST). These rules will destroy access to the long tradition of hobby aviation as well as limit the ability for open research and development around these technologies. The UFDA CREW decided we needed to do something more than just comment on the NPRM. We decided we needed to organize the hobby flight community around a peaceful protest to preserve our rights and access to the sky! To tell the FAA that their NPRM goes too far in restricting access to a hobby that has one of the best safety records of any that exist. To this end we have created Help Save Our Hobby to lead this protest movement forward and help organize our collective voices into reality in Washington DC, directly outside the FAA HQ, in Hancock Park on February 28th and 29th!!! We have now just gained the ability to fly like birds as we have always dreamt of… We cannot allow the FAA to take that all away for false security or commercial benefit.
