This massive complex was constructed in the 12th century by a pre-inca culture. Then, the incas used it and improved the place in the 14th century. After the spanish invasion it was abandoned and plundered and partially demolished until the year 2010 when it was declared a protected historical site. The place has its name because of a french lutheran hermit named Mathew Salade who lived there in the colony time (1560) and was the first victim of the spanish inquisition in this country: he was burned alive in november 15th of 1573. Actually the pyramids are still in investigation and some are being restored/curated. and also the place is used for cultural events, specially for music, poetry and live performances due to the mystic nature of the place
