Turnagain Arm has some of the most dramatic tidal fluctuations in the world, sometimes as much as 40 feet. When the temperatures drop below freezing, ice forms. As the tide goes out, the ice breaks up and settles on the ocean floor, until the next high tide comes in and lifts them up again. This creates a very eerie landscape with ice chunks everywhere.
