The island of Elba is famous around the world for harboring French Emperor Napoleon in 1814 during his exile. Here are several memories of its glorious past as we visit the island, from the archaeological findings in its museums to the impressive fortresses and military constructions such as Castello del Volterraio. Also his summer residence Villa San Martino. An absolutely unmissible trip is to Mount Capanne, the highest peak on all Elba, from which you can admire a unique and marvelous panorama. The lift to the top of the mountain is quite remarkable, it feels like standing in a bird cage going up. The fortress of Giove, sits at the top of a hill on the road between Rio nell'Elba and Cavo, and you can get to it very easily by following a short path through a wood of holm oaks and lush, Mediterranean bush.
