With the successful landing this Thursday, humanity has now not only brought its 5th rover to the surface of Mars, but also its first autonomous drone. NASA's "Ingenuity" accompanied the Perseverance Rover on its journey to the red planet. Ingenuity will be the first helicopter to attempt a flight on another planet. The thin atmosphere of Mars (1% of the density of Earth's atmosphere) makes it difficult to achieve enough lift, which requires Ingenuity to not only be extremely light but also to have much larger and faster spinning rotor blades. Can't wait to see this thing powerlooping the Mars rover! Animated in Blender.
