KAYAKÖY VILLAGE IN TURKEY

Recent drone footage uploaded to AirVuz shows the remains of a once-bustling town. Content creator and drone pilot NGreyTravels flew his DJI spark over the ghost town, Kayaköy.

 

Located in Southwestern Turkey and nestled along the Taurus Mountains, the town was originally known as Karmylassos in Greek. Built in the 1700s, it was home to as many as 20,000 Greek Orthodox residents. But following World War I and the fall of the Ottoman Empire, hundreds of thousands of Greeks started fleeing the violence in Turkey. Including the inhabitants of the Kayaköy village.

 

By the 1920s it was completely deserted, making it a modern ruin. This aerial footage shows the approximately 350 homes that were abandoned. Harsh weather conditions left the buildings damaged and without roofs. Among the Greek-style houses, two Greek Orthodox churches also remain. Now a tourist destination, it is rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of the Greeks killed there.
