Key Monastery is situated in the Spiti Valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India. It's in the foothills of the Himalayas, at an altitude of over 4.1k meters (almost 13.7k ft.). Believed to have been built in the 11th century, it's the largest monastery in the Spiti Valley, which served as the conduit for the spread of Buddhism from its birthplace in Tibet into India.
