Lago Pratignano

Located within the beautiful plateau covered with grasslands overlooking the valleys of Ospitale and Dardagna, it represents a unique example of peat bog throughout northern Italy. Reachable via a long dirt track it is possible here, only for expert and attentive eyes, to observe the carnivorous plant Drosera Rotundifolia which during the summer attracts insects of all sizes and then traps them among its coils while in spring and autumn it is possible to observe numerous species of birds that find an oasis here to rest during long migrations. Around the lake the large prairie that covers the plateau at the limits of which a huge secular beech tree seems to exude magic is very suggestive and an ideal place for walks. Magic that can be found in the Bolognese side where a small inlet of the rocky wall is called "Fairy Cave" because legend has it that three evil fairies live inside it, which attract travelers inside the lake during foggy days and then make them to drown.
