Mai Châu is a District of the Hòa Bình Province in north-central Vietnam. As Vietnam increasingly opens itself up to tourism, Mai Châu has been one of the prime beneficiaries. Located about 135 km (around 80 mi.) from the Vietnamese capital city of Hanoi, it's a generally hilly region, with small towns built into its many valleys.
