Located in the southwestern corner of the state on the Mississippi River, Memphis is the Volunteer State's second largest city after Nashville. Memphis is most closely associated with musician Elvis Presley. His family moved here from nearby Tupelo, Mississippi in 1948, and a decade later he was perhaps the most famous person on earth, credited with having invented Rock and Roll.
