Monte Bar - Sea of fog (Ticino, Switzerland)

Monte Bar is part of the Lugano Prealps, a chain of "foothills" of the larger Alps Mountains chain, which straddle the Swiss-Italian border. Located between the Val d'Isone and the Val Colla in the (largely Italian-speaking) canton of Ticino, Monte Bar has a peak elevation of just under 6k ft. above sea level (a bit over 1.8 k m).

One of the most spectacular views of the Greater Lugano area, comprising a series of urban conglomerates, can be seen from Monte Bar. From the top, the view stretches from the Gulf of Lugano to the green interior of the Val Colla valley, with the metropolis of Milan silhouetted in the distance, and from the Rhaetian, Valais and Bernese Alps, to the Monte Rosa massif and the Apennines. The summit is easily accessible by a steep but pleasant two-hour walk through fields and woods, starting from Corticiasca (municipality of Capriasca). At the foot of the peak, you will find a modern mountain hut, where you can sample an array of specialities from the Ticino area.
