Some of the most iconic sights of the Netherlands are its windmills. While the Dutch did not invent windmills, the windswept North European Plain proved an ideal environment to perfect the technology. One of the best place to see Dutch windmills is around the town of Zanse Schans, which lies in the province of North Holland, just west of Amsterdam; It's home to hundreds of these wooden marvels.
