It's located in the city of Mithi in the Tharparkar District, in the southern part of the province of Sindh. Built in the first part of the 19th century, the fortification is constructed almost entirely of brick. It's sometimes called "Gateway to the Thar Desert" by virtue of its location relative to the vast desert which covers parts of modern-day Pakistan and India.
