You could say it all started with a wave. Not a normal one though. It was an XXL size. He emerged on Norte Beach on November 1, 2011 and when anyone would have fled in terror towards the sand, the Hawaiian Garret McNamara ran in the opposite direction, towards the angry sea. Of course he is a surfing legend and he knew what to do with a wave about 24 meters high. Since then, everyone knows Nazaré as the capital of giant waves.

This charming fishing town on the coast of Portugal is one of the best-known extreme surfing meccas in the world. Nowadays, the best specialists come here to measure their strength against the ocean. The last one, the Portuguese surfer Hugo Vau, who after the feat of surfing a giant wave of 35 meters at the beginning of 2018, entered the Guinness Book of Records with the largest wave ever surfed. And the records do not stop happening. The last one, that of Maya Gabeira, who has broken a new record by surfing a 22.4 meter wave!
