The Saint-Joseph Chapel was built in 1865 and quickly became a center of pilgrimage. At the time, the islanders came for the feast of Saint Joseph.
It has been an integral part of a well-known spiritual center ever since. It was built to be clearly visible from the Gulf, and is well known to hikers and boaters.
