The three tiny islands - west to east, Gili Trawangam, Gili Meno, and Gili Air, line up off the northwestern coast of Lombok, the main island of the southern province of West Nusa Tenggara. More or less "undiscovered" until the 1980's, in recent years the Gili Islands have emerged as a more laid-back alternative to Bali, the fabled island to their west.
