The pass climbs with a winding road from Pontebba, in the Canal del Ferro, in Italy, and then descends towards the village of Tröpolach in Austria, in the Gail valley (Gailtal in German). The border between Austria and Italy is located right at the top of the pass. The Pramollo Pass is a ski resort, with the lifts mainly on the Austrian side, and is the largest ski area in Carinthia, with its 110 km of slopes and 30 lifts. Some lifts remain in operation even in the summer season as a connection with the surrounding peaks.
