Pisa is a town in Italy, in Tuscany, the capital of the province of Pisa. It lies in the northwest part of the country, on both banks of the River Arno, 10 km east of its mouth into the Ligurian Sea. The city has an area of 185 km² and approximately 89,000 inhabitants. Pisa is known all over the world with its Leaning Tower at Piazza dei Miracoli. FLORENCE is the metropolis of Italian Tuscany lying on the Arno River. In the Middle Ages, Florence was the center of a major city that converted into the Duchy of Tuscany during the reign of the Medicean family, which later became Grand Duchy.
