In Portsmouth I only scratched the surface of what's to see - if you want to see more I suggest this awesome video by Pinned On Places - http://www.youtube.com/@PinnedonPlaces.

I only visited the English Heritage sights, the Landport and King James Gates and the far more impressive but closed Royal Garrison Church. King James's Gate was built 1687 and moved to this spot around 1860. Landport Gate was the main gate built 1760.

Royal Garrison Church was built 1212 as a hospice for pilgrims on their way to Winchester and Chichester Cathedrals. 1560 it became part of the garrison. 1941 the nave was hit by a bomb.

Racton Monument (or Ruin) is a folly built around 1766 to 1775 with bricks and faced with flintstone. It's 24 m high. The current owner wanted to restore it for living use but didn't get a permit.
