Salento is a sub-region of Apulia in Southern Italy. On a map, it's the "boot heel" of Italy, covering all of the provinces of Lecce and parts of two other provinces. It's home to some of the most legendary beaches in Europe, including truly unique spots like the Grotta della Poesia sinkhole. The region lacks large cities but is home to a number of smaller and very old cities, the largest of which are Lecce, Nardo, and Galatino. You can check out Salento from above in this marvelous drone video by Dani Massaro.
