Scheveningen is one of the districts that make up the Hague, the Dutch capital and the third largest city in the Netherlands.  It's home to some of the finest beaches and seaside resorts in the Benelux region.  Now known for its quaint beaches, the area was the site of one of the most famous battles of the First Anglo-Dutch War of the mid-17th century.  At the Battle of Scheveningen in 1653, onlookers stood on these beaches and watched the English Navy inflict a heavy defeat on Dutch naval forces.
