Iona is a small island off the coast of the Isle of Mull and reached from there by passenger ferry. From here St. Columba (an Irish monk) brought Christianity (back) to Scotland.

The graveyard here is populated by 60+ kings from Scotland, Norway and other countries because according to legend on the last days of the earth the coming of Christ would start here. St. Ronan's is the chapel for the graveyard.

The abbey sports an excellent small museum with many ancient stones. The abbey was a ruin but has been restored in the early 20th century by the Iona Community. The nunnery was founded 1203. Unfortunately there is a lot of jello in the footage.
