Sounio (or Kavo columns or Kavokolones) is the name of the cape located at the southern end of the prefecture of Attica. Its shores are rocky and steep. It rises almost vertically from the sea at a great height, forming at its foot to the west a small cove that with a isthmus is separated by another eastern cove. Sounio is known for its important geographical location but also for the ruins of the ancient temple of Poseidon that are located in it. In recent years, the wider region has been declared a national park due to its environmental value. The sunset from Sounio is famous.
