The lower part of Big Cottonwood Canyon is very rugged. Geologic layers have been thrust vertically. Flying over these mountains gives one pause. Building SR-190 was no easy task; having to cut through the multi colored rocks. Twin Peaks are in the distance, standing 11,330 feet high and at the bottom of the Canyon, Big Cottonwood Creek crosses a man made falls, and then it meanders quietly through the bottoms. This area is locally known as "Storm Mountain".
