Woody Point is at the south-east end of the Redcliffe Peninsula, approximately 35 kms (22 miles) north-northeast of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Woody Point is a popular recreational destination within the Brisbane metropolitan area, and commands uninterrupted views of Moreton Bay and islands.
Woody Point Jetty is a 240-metre (790 ft) jetty with informative displays, seating and facilities for fishing.
The shipwreck remains of the HMQS Gayundah can be seen at Picnic Point (Woody Point).
Redcliffe Peninsula's beaches, coastal, fishing and recreational amenities make this a popular recreational destination within the Brisbane metropolitan area.
Redcliffe was the site of the first European settlement in Queensland.
The Houghton Highway and the Ted Smout bridges are 2.74 km (1.70 mile) reinforced concrete viaducts spanning Bramble Bay from Brighton to Clontarf, Moreton Bay.
Moreton Bay covers 1,523 square kilometres (588 sq miles) and is 35 kilometres (22 miles) across at its widest point. The bay is separated from the Coral Sea (Pacific Ocean) by a chain of three sand islands, being Moreton Island in the north, North Stradbroke Island and South Stradbroke Island in the south.
It is also home to the Moreton Bay Marine Park that is a beautiful tapestry of islands, reefs, mangroves, seagrass beds, saltmarshes, rocky reefs, sheltered inlets and open ocean covering 3,400 km2 and stretching 125 km from Caloundra to the northern Gold Coast. It is known for its abundant birdlife and other wildlife, including whales, dolphins, dugong, sharks and turtles.
Moreton Bay is also one of Queensland's most important coastal resources. The waters of Moreton Bay are a popular destination for recreational anglers and are used by commercial operators who provide seafood to market. The Port of Brisbane coordinates large traffic along the shipping channel which crosses the northern section of the bay. The bay serves as a safe approach to the international airport and reduces noise pollution over the city to the west of the airport.
