September, 2019 After Vietnam, we visited the beautiful and laidback country of Laos for few days. This is my flight log summary of my stay in the country. On the first day we went to the Pak Ou caves, we had to cross the river with a boat to get there and before we did so, I actually sent my drone from the other side to dive this beautiful rock that reminded me Vietnam. On the way back I randomly came across a wild elephant which was chilling along the river. I didn't want to stress him so I just passed through quickly and left him alone. On the way back from the caves we drove to the Tat Sae waterfalls where we again took another boat and cross the river to get to it. That's where I lost for the first time my friends. I went to take some FPV shots and I ended looking for them for a while. When it started to get darker, we finally found each other to get the last boat home. We had to drive back to the hotel a little bit in the dark which is not ideal on the Laos roads. The following day, we did the other waterfalls. The biggest waterfalls were the Kuang Si waterfalls. This place is very impressive because the whole mountain is a waterfall. The water infiltrated itself everywhere. You can access the bottom of the waterfalls where most of the tourists are and then you have two ways to get to the top which is... exhausting. As soon as we arrived, I lost my friends again. They went for a swim and I was taking pictures and I lost them. So I decided to go climb up the top by myself. Going one way up and the other way down. At the top there is this little river that is really nice and quiet, in this video you're going to see me zooming in at the top of the waterfalls, the next shot you see it's what's up there. When I went back downstairs I decided to fly FPV, I did two batteries. The first one was totally fine but I wasn't happy with my flying because I wasn't getting close enough from the waterfall, especially when I dived it. So I did another one. That's the one you see at the end of the video. This second battery went much better, the first way up was good and the dive was smooth too. I could have landed, well... I should have landed but I was greedy and thought I could do even better since on my first way up, I touched a tree branch when I turned around to dive the waterfalls. And on the way back up well... you saw what happened haha. If you are curious about seeing how my DVR looked like, I've posted the footage on here https://www.instagram.com/p/B2wLz_tnHmw/ I was by myself and felt very lonely suddenly haha. I couldn't find my friends and decided to go up there to find it. I took the microsd card from my goggles and plugged it into my phone and started to try to find my way to where I thought it crashed. After looking for a hour to find a path to the waterfall I gave up. It was way too dangerous and the thought of slipping and falling myself in there was starting to terrifying me. The thing is... no tourist go up there and they would probably have found me months later if something would have happened. So I left the place and I actually left to go back to the motorcycle and that's where I found my cousin and my friends. When my cousin realised what happened he convinced me to go back up and look for it. So we did. And he found it after climbing down the whole waterfalls while I was climbing up. What an adventure... The drone spent hours in the water and I was surprised that just the flight controller was dead. Everything was working fine, even my Tattu R-line battery. Thankfully, I had a spare flight controller with me and fixed it the same evening. The next and last day, I decided to go solo on a road trip on the over side of the river by taking the ferry to test my quadcopter. I didn't know where I was going but I was going... To my big surprise, the over side of the river was totally empty. Just one road and nothing else. So I stopped on the side of the road after 20km to test the drone. I didn't care about video footage and I just flew it with my GoPro session to have some fun with the trees and freestyle them. Then I carried on along the river and found this village where I stopped and decided to go fly along the river and on my way back, I decided to put the hero back on and send the drone to this mountain I was seeing from the road. I sent it about 1km away and I was still using the micro transmitter from TBS. I was pretty happy to not failsafe haha but I really didn't care anymore. It was my last day of flying. I stopped along the road to get some high speed shots on my way back. I went back to the city to meet my friends but decided to do some freestyle next to the river just before sunset, just to put my battery in storage mode before our flight the next morning. This video hopefully makes you experience a part of my adventure in Laos. Reliving where we went, what we did and what I saw through my goggles while I was flying.
