Tiger and Turtle – Magic Mountain is a large, unique art installation and landmark in Duisburg, Germany. It was designed by artists Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth and opened in 2011.

Even though it looks like a roller coaster made of steel, there are no cars: it’s a walkway. You can walk up and down its stairs and experience it like a giant sculptural staircase.

The structure is about 20 meters high, covers a large area on top of a former slag heap (called Heinrich-Hildebrand-Höhe), and offers wide views over Duisburg, the Rhine region, and even as far as Düsseldorf on clear days.

At night, 880 LED lights outline the winding shape, making it especially striking.

The name Tiger and Turtle symbolizes a contrast: the tiger for speed and the turtle for slowness - an artistic way to reflect on movement and pause, which plays into how you explore the sculpture on foot.

Visitors enter for free and can walk along most of the steel track (except the unwalkable loop).

With my FPV drone, I wanted to capture the special light atmosphere: the curving LEDs of Tiger and Turtle glowing at dusk, combined with the stunning colors of the sunset. From the air, this creates a unique interplay of light and landscape, making the whole scene feel even more magical.
