For our 2nd hike of 2017 we decided to take it to the next level. From our first hike last week at Pinnacle Peak, you can say that Tom’s Thumb was quite the jump in the level of difficulty. If you look at the over all distance from the trail head you may not think so being its just over 4 miles. Can’t be that bad right? Well let me tell me you our lungs were a burning! Granted, we haven’t been hiking for awhile so it was a little more strenuous for us than it may be for most, but the switchbacks in the beginning were what really got us. Once you get past the switchbacks its smooth sailing. The trail levels out for a bit and takes you around the back of Tom’s Thumb which allows you a nice breather and you get to see amazing views all around you. One thing I loved about Tom’s Thumb is you are allowed to bring dogs as long as they are on leashes. The only downside with this trail is that it can get pretty crowded and there is no water at all so make sure you come prepared. There are multiple trails over here, so look into it and see what best fits you. You can also climb for any of you rock climbers out there, we saw quite a few. Don’t forget once you are done to head over to Tom’s Thumb Fresh Market for their amazing BBQ that has been featured on Diner’s, Drive-ins and Dives, its over the top!
