Torre Uclés

The Tower of Ucles is located west of the town of Priego de Córdoba, between it and neighboring Carcabuey, province of Córdoba, in the easternmost karstic crestones of the Sierra de los Pollos or Cage. It is one of the watchtowers built by the Nazarites between 1332 and 1341. Although the strategic location and the visual dominion of the site do not seem important, it guarded the obligatory passage between Cabra and Carcabuey-Priego, and the rich zone of orchards of the basin of the Genilla River. La Torre de Ucles se encuentra al oeste de la localidad de Priego de Córdoba, entre ésta y la vecina Carcabuey, provincia de Córdoba, en los crestones cársticos más orientales de la Sierra de los Pollos o de Jaula. Se trata de una de las atalayas construidas por los nazaritas entre 1332 y 1341. Aunque la situación estratégica y el dominio visual del emplazamiento no parezcan importantes, vigilaba el paso obligado entre Cabra y Carcabuey-Priego, y la rica zona de huertas de la cuenca del río Genilla.
