Contributor Dadrone created this beautiful aerial tour of Valtellina, an alpine valley in the Lombardy region of northern Italy.  It is one of the most important mountain passes between Germany and Italy, and its strategic importance has led to significant battles being fought for its control over the centuries.  During the Thirty Years' War, the valley was the scene of intense fighting between Habsburg and French-aligned forces, including a famous massacre of Protestants that took place in 1620.
