It sits on a bay of the same name on Lake Minnetonka, the state's ninth largest lake and the largest in its southern half. Situated 18 km (around 11 mi.) from downtown Minneapolis, Wayzata has a long history; it became a major summer resort area in the 1870's when it became connected by rail to St. Paul. It's considered one of the most desirable (and expensive) areas in the Twin Cities.
