Winter at Rasnov Citadel, Transylvania, Romania

Now part of Romania, Transylvania sits on a plateau surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains.  The region was able to survive as a distinctive cultural territory in part due to its ability to defend its interior from invasions through the key passes in the mountains.  One of the "strongpoints" in the system was the citadel built atop a hill over the city of Râșnov, which covered invasion paths through the nearby Bran Pass.  Seen here in this drone video by Transylvaniaoffroad, the Râșnov Citadel dates to the 13th century.
