- Report
Burning invasive species and debris piles on-site is a fast and effective way to break down dead plant material. In this particular meadow, invasive plants were competing with native vegetation. Once the burning is complete, the area can be restored with native plant species. Efforts like these contribute to building a healthy, resilient forest. Known as "good fire," pile burning helps reduce brush and debris that could otherwise become hazardous during wildfire season. All activities were carried out under proper permits and by a certified burn crew. I was invited to film this event to help promote the use of prescribed burns as a tool for reducing forest fuel and encouraging the growth of native plants.
