The construction of this fortress dates back to the middle of the 15th century, when, supposedly, the penultimate sultan of Granada, Mulay Hasan, ordered the construction of a fortress for his retirement and enjoyment together with his last wife, a maiden, daughter of Sancho Jiménez de Solís, Commander of Martos, Warden of Bédmar and of the Higuera de Martos. In the Nasrid conflict in which this commander died, this maiden was captured and taken to the Alhambra, where she was imprisoned in the tower, which in his memory, today is called the tower of the captive. This young Christian girl is Isabel de Solís, whose beauty eclipses the sultan and at the same time she falls in love with him. Isabel decided to convert to the Islamic religion, taking the name of Zoraida (dawn star), and later married Muley Hacén. When she became the favourite, he granted her privileges and properties, such as a personal residence called "Doralco Tola" in the Cadima of the Albaicín. Zoraida had two sons from this marriage, who were treated as princes.
