Il 24 novembre del 1973 un Douglas Super DC-3 della US Navy fu costretto ad un atterraggio di emergenza sulla sperduta spiaggia di Sólheimasandur nell'Islanda sud occidentale. Tutto l'equipaggio sopravvisse all'impatto e riuscì a mettersi in salvo, ma l'aereo venne abbandonato sul posto e giace ancora li.
E' sicuramente uno dei posti piu affascinanti che ho visto in islanda.
