This land was the birthplace of the Army of the Andes, as it was in this city where this army, led by José de San Martín, organized and trained for the Liberation Campaign of Argentina, Chile, and Peru.Yesterday, August 17, the passing of General José de San Martín into immortality was commemorated with various activities in Argentina and other countries. In Washington, D.C., there is an equestrian monument dedicated to the General, located at Virginia Avenue and 20th Street NW, in the Foggy Bottom area. This statue is a replica of the one in Plaza San Martín in Buenos Aires and was a gift from Argentina to the United States.
