Mount Mee & D’Aguilar National Park

Mount Mee forms part of the D’Aguilar Range and the northern section of D’Aguilar National Park.

From the elevated Dahmongah Lookout Mount Mee there are expansive views from the seaside town of Caloundra through to the pristine Moreton Bay in the east, and the picturesque D’Aguilar Range to the west.

Mount Mee also overlooks the magnificent Glasshouse Mountains.

Whilst the park itself contains a diverse mixture of rainforest, open eucalypt woodland, scribbly gum forest, piccabeen palm groves and other native vegetation.

The northern section provides opportunities for bushwalking, scenic driving, four-wheel driving, trail-bike riding, picnicking and camping.

 The Gantry — Mount Mee

The Gantry is one of the historic focal points of the Mount Mee section of D’Aguilar National Park.

The site was once home to a timber sawmill that operated from the 1930s until 1981.

Today, remnants of this timber-milling history remain and The Gantry provides a gateway to the northern section of the park.

The Gantry is also the starting point for several walking and forest-drive experiences, including the Piccabeen walk, Somerset trail, Mount Mee forest drive and Western Escarpment forest drive.

The Gantry itself can be reached by a conventional vehicle from the south via Dayboro and Mount Mee Road.

However, the forest-drive network beyond The Gantry requires appropriate 4WD or trail-bike access.

 Mount Mee Forest Drive

The Mount Mee forest drive travels through native and plantation forests, with opportunities to stop at rainforest walks, waterholes, picnic areas and lookouts.

Queensland Parks currently classifies this journey for 4WD and trail-bike access, with a suggested driving time of about one hour. Along the route are attractions including Falls Lookout, Rocky Hole and Broadwater.

The forest roads include dips, climbs and turns through the rugged D’Aguilar landscape.

 Falls Lookout & Bulls Falls

Falls Lookout track provides views across the northern D’Aguilar Range, Neurum Valley and Bulls Falls.

Queensland Parks currently describes this as a 1 km return Grade 2 walking track, with approximately 30 minutes suggested walking time.

The lookout provides panoramic views of the surrounding ridges and valleys, with a further short section leading towards Bulls Falls.

 Somerset Trail

For walkers looking for a longer adventure, the Somerset trail begins opposite The Gantry. The current Queensland Parks description lists the trail as a 13 km Grade 4 circuit, with approximately four hours suggested walking time.

It passes through scribbly gum forest, rainforest, montane heath and piccabeen palm groves before reaching Somerset Lookout, where there are views towards Somerset Dam and Lake Wivenhoe.

The trail includes unfenced cliff edges, so walkers should remain on the formed track and keep well away from cliff edges.

 4WD & Forest Adventure

The Mount Mee section of D’Aguilar National Park has a designated network of forest drives including: Mount Mee forest drive Western Escarpment forest drive Range Road forest drive

The Western Escarpment forest drive is a 14 km circuit with views towards Lake Somerset and Lake Wivenhoe from Somerset Lookout.
